Battlefield Tours: Operations Totalize & Tractable (1944)

Join Rob Woolsey in exploring Canada's military action in Operations Totalize and Tractable. Operations Totalize and Tractable were the First Canadian Army attacks in August of 1944, during the later phases of the Normandy Campaign. Operation Totalize was to collapse the German front line, and cut off the retreat of the German forces and capture the town of Falaise. After a tough fight and failure to achieve all of the objectives, Operation Tractable was planned, and subsequently began the final drive to Falaise. These are the first big battles of the II Canadian Corps, the introduction of a new weapon and the first Canadian Victoria Cross action of the Northwest Europe.
