God knows everything. Where you are. What you did. What you are thinking before you think it. He knows the answer to every question that has ever been asked. So why does he ask them?
In the Garden of Eden, after the first sin in human history, God walked through the garden in the cool of the day. Adam was hiding. And God — the one who placed every star and knows every thought — asked three words: Where are you?
He was not looking for information. He was looking for Adam.
That was not the only time. He asked Cain where his brother was while the blood was still on the ground. He asked Jacob his name while wrestling him in the dark. He asked Elijah what he was doing in a cave. He asked an open room who would go for him. And after the resurrection, he asked Peter one question three times until a broken man was made whole again.
Six questions. Six people at the most critical moments of their lives. And every question was an invitation disguised as a sentence.
