UNC Horizons: Stopping the Stigma
A team at RTI International received funding from the March of Dimes and the CDC to educate the medical field about the negative impact of stigma on various populations of individuals who use opioids, including women who are pregnant or parenting. In search of stories, RTI reached out to UNC Horizons. Two of our amazing women in recovery shared their powerful stories about the severe stigma and discrimination they experienced from healthcare staff while they were pregnant. We are so proud of the women who bravely shared their stories to help prevent other women from suffering the same hurtful and shameful experiences they endured while seeking treatment for substance use disorders.
