#shorts easiest ikea pendant diy | simple spraypaint makeover

Are you team original or team spray paint?? ▽

I never intended to spray paint my IKEA GOTTORP black— I was really into the natural look and it also retailed at $35, so I didn’t buy it TO spray paint it. But alas— I think many of us have loved the moodier tones lately and I was no exception! I spray painted this pendant with Rust-oleum in Canyon Black (satin) a couple months ago and haven’t looked back. It adds a depth and contrast that the space originally lacked without having to change anything dramatically elsewhere.

If your space is needing a little oomph and you’re sensing that a lot of the textures and tones in your home are starting to blend in together without any interest, painting something black or playing around with deeper tones of shades you already have (like browns, grays, etc.) will make a big difference.

If you’re wanting to keep it feeling earthy, my tip would be to use a matte spray paint to keep the textures in your space cohesive. A glossy finish might have made it feel a bit too modern for me (but do what feels right for YOU!).

p.s. I’ve been going back and forth on whether or not I should also spray paint part of the light cord or change it to a black one, also…what do you think?
