Imagine the scenario that you break down with your car in the wilderness and you really need to get a campfire going to keep you warm, protected and to make food until rescue is coming. I if you ain't have no lighter nor matches in the car, I hope you got a pencil in your glove compartment!
Just connect the two ends with the terminals on your car battery and you have an open flame in seconds.
In the first try I used four Lithium Ion batteries in parallel - but 4,2 Volts is to little for the high resistance of the graphite core. I could have just put them in series to get 16,8 Volts which would have worked like a charm. The 12V of your car battery will do the trick with ease. Another of 1000 ways to start a fire, great tricks for survival.
