The Cathedrals Express Featuring B1 61306 Paddington to Cardiff 01/03/2015

It's St David's Day today, and what a better way to celebrate the Patron Saint of Wales's Day than to capture the first ever visit of a working B1 to South Wales.
Thompson B1 61306 'Mayflower' put on a superb performance with Driver Ray Churchill at the controls, as it worked the 1Z61 08.58 from London to Cardiff run by the West Coast Railway Company.
This much anticipated run is first seen working through Magor between Severn Tunnel and Newport, then after dropping the coaches off at Cardiff Canton, the engine is seen doing a very rare movement when it went onto the Penarth Branch before picking up the stock for the return working to London.
In bitterly cold conditions, the train is seen at sunset heading away from Cardiff along Wentloog....topping off a very enjoyable day's videoing. My apologies for the unsteadiness at times.....the old fingers were frozen to the bone and not fully functioning.
