Preventing Black Water Tank Sensor Problems
TROLLS - PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU COMMENT! This is the way I take care of my system. No, it does not abide by the directions in the manual. I Don't Care! If you want to make a video that shows the "by the book" method of black tank maintenance, please create your own YouTube channel and have at it. ZERO comments are shown here unless I approve them so don't waste your time.
Having a black water tank sensor tell you your black water tank is full when it isn't is a bit of a problem. Improper toilet tissue and items that should not be flushed can get hung on the sensor and give you a false reading. We have never used anything but RV toilet tissue and it still happened to us! Of course the sensor can fail and provide you with an incorrect reading as well. Id start the troubleshooting by cleaning the sensor first. If your RV is mobile, you might can dump a bunch of ice in the tank and drive around hoping the ice can jar the obstruction loose. There are wands you can purchase that might knock off the obstruction off the sensor as well. But the simplest thing to try first is simply fill the tank with clean water and dump it. It might take several attempts but its way cheaper than any other method. Filling the black water tank with fresh water and flushing it out is now part of our normal routine to help prevent future problems in that area. It only takes a few minutes and could save us hundreds in repair cost in the long run.
