Shanghai couple sends wedding invites to doctors after successful weight loss

Mr. Xu and his fiancée have undergone weight loss through metabolic surgery and recently returned to Huadong Hospital in Shanghai to deliver wedding invitations to the doctors who helped them.

Mr. Xu lost 77 kilograms, reducing his weight from 167.4 kg, and his fiancée lost 22 kilograms, managing her diabetes which had previously required insulin.

Mr. Xu had tried various weight loss methods over the past decade, including meal replacements, exercise, acupuncture, and massage therapies, but none were successful. Exercise even caused him heart problems.

A doctor from Huadong Hospital explained that for patients with a BMI over 50, diet and exercise alone are not enough for significant weight loss. For those with a BMI over 40, metabolic surgery is recommended.

This procedure removes two-thirds of the stomach, leaving only one-third.After the surgery, both Mr. Xu and his wife feel better and can eat normally.

The doctor emphasized that lifestyle improvements, including diet control and regular exercise, are essential for long-term weight management.
