Buckshot Jones vs. Randy Lajoie - 1997 Food City 250
I wanted to highlight the races for both Buckshot Jones and Randy Lajoie in the crash-marred 1997 Food City 250 from Bristol. Randy started on the pole and led early, but he had a flat tire. Luckily for him, a crash occurred causing a caution and kept him from losing a lap.
Randy found himself back in the lead only to be passed by Buckshot Jones. Buckshot had a great car that night but I can tell he was aggressive. He made contact with Chris Diamond which ended up wiping out the second-place car of Elton Sawyer.
Then, the moment that everyone knows about occurred with less than 20 laps to go. Buckshot got around Lajoie for position. Then, in turn 1 on the next lap, Randy spun Buckshot out. Buckshot was very upset, leading him to retaliate with his car (unsuccessfully...looks like Danica learned from Buckshot on retaliating lol). He was immediately parked.
This week's episode of Dale Jr. Download with Buckshot Jones reminded me of this race and this moment. It was one of the most famous Busch Series (now called Xfinity Series) rivalries that first started at Talladega earlier in 1997 and continued into 1998.
I also added a bonus clip at the end. Kyle Petty as a pit reporter trying to explain that week's Track Fact only to be rudely interrupted by a one Michael Waltrip lol.
