Friday The 13th Part VII: The New Blood marked a new era in the franchise. It would be time to put an end to the Tommy Jarvis storyline as Paramount wanted to take the series in a new direction -- hence the title. Now, take a look at some things you probably didn’t know about the movie.

#1: This entry in the series was originally meant to finally bring two horror heavyweights together in one film, introducing Freddy Krueger into the Friday the 13th universe. Unfortunately, both Freddy and Jason were owned by separate studios, and they couldn’t come to an agreement as to how the idea should be presented. The script was rewritten, and the rest is horror film history:

Fans begged for a meeting between the two horror legends. While we got our first taste of the two icons finally being featured in a film together in 1995’s Jason Goes to Hell, it still wasn’t what fans wanted to see. The full-blown crossover would finally come in 2003 with the film Freddy V.S. Jason.

#2: Late one night, Kane Hodder was returning to his dressing room after a long day of shooting. The dressing room was a quarter of a mile away, so he began walking down a dirt road towards it. On his way, while still dressed in the full-on Jason Voorhees costume, he was approached by a local man that asked him if he was one of the cast members from the new film that was being shot in the area. Kane stayed in character, looked at the man silently for a bit, and then grunted and lunged at him. As you might expect, the man nearly shit himself and took off running while nearly tripping over his own feet.

The next day, Director John Carl Buechler told Kane Hodder that the man had reported the incident to the Sheriff’s office and that the Sheriff was supposed to show up on-set later to discuss the situation. Luckily for Kane, the Sheriff never showed up.

#3: While auditioning for the role of Tina, actress Kerry Noonan began to suspect that the film was a Friday The 13th film, even though the movie she was reading for was going under the fake title of “Birthday Bash.” She asked the Director if this was, in fact, a Friday The 13th film, and admitted that she’d played the role of Paula in Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. Once John Carl Buechler found this out, he decided not to cast her.

#4: The New Blood is considered to be one of the most censored Friday The 13th films to date. Director John Carl Buechler had to submit the film to the MPAA nine times and make numerous cuts to the movie before he was able to secure an R-rating.

#5: C.J. Graham was originally meant to reprise the role of Jason Voorhees. However, director John Carl Buechler pushed for stuntman Kane Hodder to take on the role after seeing Hodder eat real worms on the set of Prison the previous year.

#6: The infamous sleeping bag kill scene was a major pain for Kane Hodder. The mannequin inside the bag weighed 95lbs -- much heavier than Hodder anticipated. There were numerous takes of the scene and Hodder felt as if he just couldn’t get it took look right, so after one take, he kicked the sleeping bag out of frustration. This would be the take that they decided to use in the final version of the movie.

#7: A local man was hired as an alligator wrangler to protect the crew from any alligators that may have wandered onto the Alabama set and caused a problem. However, alligators aren’t active during the winter months, which is when The New Blood was being filmed. So they essentially hired someone for a problem that didn’t exist.

#8: Paramount Pictures was dead-set on a May 13th, 1988 release date. However, Paramount wasted a lot of time negotiating with New Line Cinema on the aforementioned deal that never came to pass. By the time it was all said and done, they had to have a new script written, find a director, find a cast, shoot, edit and score the movie in about five months.

#9: The original subtitle of the film was going to be “Jason’s Destroyer,” rather than “The New Blood.”

#10: Kane Hodder, being a stuntman, performed all of his own stunts as Jason Voorhees. However, in his own admission, one of the stunts nearly cost the man his life. Near the end of the film, Jason falls through the stairs and lands in the basement of the house. A certain amount of the steps were meant to give way, while the real steps would remain in place. When Hodder fell, he barely missed hitting his head on one of the actual steps.
