CHELATION THERAPY MAY MODESTLY REDUCE THE RISK OF OVERALL CARDIOVASCULAR EVENTS IN SOME PATIENTS

Over the past 50 years increasing numbers of patients with atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries have been treated with chelation therapy. Given intravenously, this alternative therapy contains a combination of various chemicals and vitamins that are said to improve the lining of arteries and blood vessels. However, this therapy is still not recommended in conventional medical practice. A new study examined whether E-T-D-A chelation therapy could reduce cardiovascular events among patients who have had a previous heart attack. Catherine Dolf has more in this week's JAMA Report.
