Effect of Grain Direction in Spindle Turnings, bottle stoppers.
Hi my friends! In this video I am going to examine the visual effect the grain direction produces in spindle turnings, like bottle stoppers and pens. For that, I selected a piece of chestnut oak, from which I obtained three blanks, the first, with the grain direction running parallel to the lathe rotation axis, the second, with the grain direction running at 30° from the lathe rotation axis, and the third, with the grain direction running perpendicular to the lathe rotation axis. The three pieces came out from the same board, which, pretty much, had straight grain. The video shows how difficult or easy is the turning of the different blanks, and the visual impact produced by each grain direction.
