How to make a living as a writer (some thoughts on becoming a career author)

I made this video last year when I was in an amazing place in Southern Bulgaria - I talk about some of the crucial aspects to making a living as a writer (what kinds of books you need to write, how to reach readers, common mistakes indie authors make that kill sales, etc). This was meant as a video introduction to the course I'm working on, Guerrilla Publishing, but it's been so long I'm starting over and making new videos. Hope it's helpful!

Hey there - I'm Derek Murphy. I'm a fine artist who became a book cover designer, then started writing young adult scifi and fantasy. I've spent almost 20 years living abroad, have a PhD in comparative literature (revolutionary politics in Paradise Lost), and have been featured in CNN for renting castles to use as writing retreats. Although I'm not working with clients anymore, I've built a ton of resources to help indie authors write, design and publish bestselling books.
