A few days ago I received the new redesigned 48 chord harmonica from Hohner. It's fantastic! Though I am a Hohner performing artist, after over 6 hours of playing it, I can honestly say it's a great playing harmonica out of the box. It is far more airtight, and also louder, than my modified old wooden comb chord harmonicas. It's to the point where I am having to back off on how much air I use on it. I can sustain a chord at the same volume much longer (about 6 seconds) on this new model because of the responsiveness and airtight qualities.

The tuning is pretty consistent throughout, thankfully, for an out of the box harmonica. Tuning is especially important on this harmonica since it's literally built for chords and has 384 reeds! One of the unique things about the chord harmonica, from other harmony instruments, is that you can tune every single chord to the tuning temperament that you'd like (Just intonation, equal temperament, or a compromise tuning). I could safely record on this in the studio or bring it onstage with me without opening it up and having to adjust reeds just to get through the gig. Now, of course, no factory built harmonica will fit a player perfectly in terms of tuning and response, which I can say as a professional harmonica technician. I think the way this one was set up would fit most players well, allowing for a good dynamic range.

I highly recommend this chord harmonica if you've played the older wooden comb models for a long time. This would fit your needs without trying to find a technician who would add these coveted features. You would also retain the root position arranged chords so you wouldn't have to adjust your ears to chord inversions like another currently made chord. This chord harmonica would be especially good for the beginner because it is so airtight, and the integrated mouthpiece makes any accidental hits to the lips, which happens if you want to play the chord harmonica well, MUCH softer than exposed brass reed plates. Even for us that have been playing the chord harmonica for at least a few years will have those accidents happen occasionally on larger jumps.

I hope you enjoy the video! Hopefully this answers any questions you may have had with this model or about these giant, and somewhat rare, harmonicas. If you have any questions, post in the comment section and I will try to answer them as soon as I see them.
