While the world suffers from the economic crisis caused by Coronavirus (COVID-19), everyone is guesstimating about the future and the possibilities of a deepening economic crisis and global recession. We have had past experiences of great recessions and economic slowdowns that have taught us a great deal. One such time was of The Great Depression of 1929 which happened between World War 1 and World War 2.

It is believed that The Great Depression and the stock market crash of 1929 was the world’s biggest financial crisis. It all started with a great industrial boom in 1919 with the expansion and increase in demand of the automobile, communication and other sectors and soon this was replicated with strengthening of Wall Street. However, if we look at the GDP of the USA between 1929 to 1932, it fell by 15% due to easy credit distribution, high unregulated speculation in the stock market and an ever increasing unemployment rate. This soon spread to other nations creating a global impact with reduced exports, less aggregate demand and less spending and a global recession.
