Bruce Cockburn on Q TV

Canadian icon Bruce Cockburn has cemented his place in the Canadian cultural canon as a tremendously gifted guitarist, but also as a songwriter with complex lyrical content and a deep sense of morality.

"Lovers in a Dangerous Time"..."Call it Democracy"..."Making Contact"...and "Pacing the Cage". Those are a just a handful of a long list of recognizable songs from Cockburn's incredible career.

And then there's his career on the macro-level. 29 studio albums, many of them have gone gold. More than a dozen JUNO awards. Countless pieces of other hardware -- CASBY awards, P.R.O. awards, a B.M.I. award, a Dutch Edison award. Honorary degrees from York University in Toronto and Boston's Berklee College. Songs covered by Jimmy Buffet, Chet Atkins, k.d. lang, the Barenaked Ladies and the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia. An innumerable list of sold-out tours, hundreds of thousands of dollars raised for social causes. In 1982 he was named a Member of the Order of Canada...later promoted to Officer in 2002. And, most impressively of all, Bruce Cockburn has displayed an unwavering commitment to making intricate, intelligent, agitating music -- and executing it with the deft hand of a virtuoso.

And now, Bruce Cockburn is about to do something he's never done. On March 31st, he'll release his very first live solo album. It's called Slice O Life
