As Michelle recalls in this tribute video screened at her 80th birthday celebration, her family home in the country side was bombed and they forced to moved back to Paris. Although Michelle never went hungry -- food was always a problem. She recalls eating cows lungs, and cat meat. Michelle's father found an inventive, if highly risky way, of suppling food to the family.

The family struggled on as best it could. Things were not made any easier when Michelle's mother was forced to shut down her couturier business after a visit from an SS general. Michelle's family had special reasons to fear the Germans -- she had a Jewish grandmother and her father had been an ardent communist.
