"High Tor" Songs & Story (1956) ft. Bing Crosby & Julie Andrews

The 1956 movie “High Tor” is a musical adaptation of Maxwell Anderson’s 1936 play of the same name. The film was produced by Desilu Productions and aired as a 90-minute episode of the CBS television series “Ford Star Jubilee” on March 10, 1956. Directed by James Neilson, it starred Bing Crosby, Julie Andrews, and Nancy Olson. The story revolves around a man named Van Dorn, played by Crosby, who is trying to save his mountain, High Tor, from being sold. The film’s music was composed by Arthur Schwartz with lyrics by Anderson.

Following the broadcast, a soundtrack album titled “High Tor: Songs and Story from the Ford Star Jubilee” was released by Decca Records. This album features songs and dialogue from the film, with performances by Crosby, Andrews, and Everett Sloane.

This is a 12" styrene Decca release (DL8272) in remarkable & sparkling clean condition. Any crackles or pops you hear are due to the aging polystyrene itself, not dust or debris. I used a Pioneer PLX-500 with a Sumiko Black Pearl conical to transfer via USB at 16Bit / 48 Khz into Audacity where I trimmed the ends, edited side A into side B, and ran a normalization filter on the entire recording to bring peaks to -1db. No other restoration was done.
