🚁 Offshore Drilling Rig Heliport Safety & Helicopter Operations: Ensuring Preparedness & Compliance

**🚁 Heliport Safety & Helicopter Operations: Ensuring Preparedness & Compliance 🚁**

Helicopter operations on offshore rigs require strict safety protocols to ensure efficient and secure landings, takeoffs, and emergency preparedness. The rig operator is responsible for maintaining a fully equipped fire equipment storage box at the heliport for firefighting and rescue.

### **Key Safety & Compliance Measures:**
✅ **Firefighting & Rescue Preparedness** – A dedicated fire equipment storage box must be available at the heliport.
✅ **Helideck Compliance** – All offshore rig helidecks must strictly follow the latest CAP-437 requirements.
✅ **Helideck Modifications & Approvals** – Any changes to helidecks or operations must be reviewed and approved by an authorized Helicopter Safety Pilot.
✅ **Obstacle-Free Sector Compliance** – Newly contracted and refurbished rigs must submit an obstacle-free sector sketch for approval.
✅ **Emergency Operations Assessment** – Helideck design and operations compliance must be verified periodically for emergency preparedness.

### **Exit & Safety Requirements:**
🚨 **Dual Exit Routes** – Unless the heliport is part of an open rig deck, there must be at least two exits, with one designated for emergency use.
🚨 **Helideck Signage** – All helideck exits must include compliant stairways and proper warning signs.
🚨 **Handrail Safety** – Telescopic and fold-down handrails should be installed without blocking access (excluding emergency exits).
🚨 **Tail Rotor Warnings** – Every heliport access point must display warning signs in Arabic and English stating: "Beware of the Tail Rotor."

### **Passenger Safety & Briefing Area:**
🛑 **Dedicated Waiting Area** – Each rig must have a designated passenger waiting area, positioned safely outside the helicopter crash fragment zone.
🛑 **Safety Signage** – The waiting area must have a passenger briefing sign, a clear deck policy sign, and a scale for weighing passengers.
🛑 **Pre-Flight Procedures** – All passengers must assemble in the waiting area at least 30 minutes before the helicopter arrives and can only proceed to the helideck when instructed by the HLO (Helideck Landing Officer).

Strict adherence to these protocols enhances safety, reduces risks, and ensures smooth heliport operations on offshore rigs. Prioritizing safety measures helps protect crew members, passengers, and assets in challenging offshore environments.
