HSS Shootout - 2021 Edition! The Greatest All-Round Guitars… EVER?

We're back with a fresh take on the ever-popular HSS shootout series! New for 2021, this lineup contains offerings from the best boutique brands around right now, for the player who's looking for a slice of... everything!

'HSS' (or Humbucker, Single Coil, Single Coil pickup) guitars have long been considered the ultimate balance - vintage, bright and crisp single coil tones, coupled with the meaty chunk of a bridge humbucking pickup. The best of all worlds, allowing the player to take one guitar to a gig or recording session and truly cover (pretty much) all bases. It's this functionality and practicality that sees them among the best selling models for many builders, with each providing their own unique take on the design platform. Want something more vintage? You've got it. Want something totally contemporary, yet still familiar? You've got that, too!

In today's lineup, we purposefully decided to omit Fender's offerings. The Big F, though the originator of the S-style design, is perhaps not best known for their 'hot-rodded' takes on the Strat, with many players historically deciding to look elsewhere for their mutant Strat-a-like on steroids. So, if you're after a Fender, you buy the Fender. But, if you want something else, with a different taste, watch on...
