United Airlines Dreamliner Makes Emergency Return To Singapore After Maintenance Issue

Singapore: A United Airlines Boeing 787-9 (UA2) returned to Singapore shortly after departure on April 24 after a mid-air maintenance issue. The crew aborted climb, declared an emergency (Squawk 7700), dumped fuel, and landed safely with no injuries reported.

Passengers noted a burning/electrical odor, though no fire occurred. United Airlines launched its “Elevated” interior of the affected aircraft that had completed its inaugural San Francisco-Singapore flight just two days earlier.

The jet turned back about 30-45 minutes into the flight after reaching initial climb toward 31,000 ft and later descended to 6,100 ft for fuel dumping. The flight was subsequently cancelled, and the aircraft was taken out of service for inspection.
