The Major Scale (C Major) | Beginner Guitar Tips

The major scale is an important building block of music. Scales are generally built out of whole steps (2 frets) and half steps (1 fret). The pattern of whole steps and half steps for a major scale is WWHWWWH—and the note you start on determines the key you are in. Here, Nicholas Veinoglou demonstrates how to build a C major scale (and play it on the acoustic guitar), while sharing a useful exercise for learning note names.
