Private Drama to Public Healing | UNFINISHED19

Psychologist Jack Saul and couples therapist Esther Perel have partnered numerous times to tackle problems that were too big to handle within the four corners of their offices. Over the years they have come together to work with refugees and their post-9/11 Lower Manhattan community to produce theater that engages the public as a creative collaborator. Jack, who has worked for over 30 years on collective trauma, will speak about his new public arts project debuting this week at UNFINISHED – “Moral Injuries of War.”

Esther, the iconic therapist, has been breaking new ground on the massive shifts in today’s relationships, both in love and work. Taking the pulse of our cultural transition through the lens of sexuality, she will speak about her podcasts “Where Should We Begin?” And “How’s Work?” Too often our personal dramas are shrouded in secrecy, shame and guilt. Both projects take the hidden into the public square. In “Moral Injuries of War,” we are asked to take responsibility for the forces that lead to private suffering; in Esther’s podcasts, we are invited to listen deeply to others and see ourselves in the mirror.
