Each generation that builds on past experience and reactivity is modifying, moderating, or maintaining those influences. The impact of the nuclear family and our own functioning can modify our functioning and the functioning of future generations. A pattern of cutting off from the past as a way of pursuing opportunity or dealing with difficult people can develop.
