It’s been almost 2 weeks since catastrophic fires devastated the island of Maui. The death toll continues to rise with many more still unaccounted for - and few formally identified. As survivors pick through the pieces, there are so many questions: how did it start in the first place and how did it spread so quickly. At the epicentre was the historic town of Lahaina where Kanaka Maoli are among the hardest hit. The devastation has brought whānau together to defend their whenua against another threat.
