Mind Your Own Business

When I asked people what their number one barrier is from feeling happy, the top thing that came up is "other people and the way they act."

This is so true in our lives. When you think about your life and the biggest challenges that you've had, very often, the top ones will relate to other people. May it be the way that they act, the way they behave or the conflicts that you have with other people.

Author Baron Katie points out that there are three kinds of business - Your business, other's business, and God's business - things that aren't in our control.

When we are trying to control or fight against the way that other people are acting or thinking, or situations that we have no control over, we are in other's business. And when we don't stay in our own business, we suffer.

If you find yourself in situations that affect you, ask yourself "Am I in my business? Or am I in other people's business?"

When we find ourselves in these situations, the key is for us to set boundaries in terms of how we respond to the way that other people act. Remembering this and staying in our own business relieves so much suffering.
