Knocked Loose Interview | Laugh Tracks | Arf Arf | Personal Stories | Posers
Here's the interview I did with Knocked Loose! It starts with Cole (guitar) and Kevin (bass) and then Bryan (vocals) joins at the 8 minute mark.
Honestly it seems like I was trying to read into the theme of the album too much so sorry if some of those questions seem forced / repetitive. Turns out maybe it really isn't that deep . Some of my favorite parts happen towards the end because that's where the funnier questions are.
I'm in a suit because I just got off my job and had to go straight to the venue for the interview / show. I got a bunch of weird looks but now I can say I saw Knocked Loose and Every Time I Die in a suit so that's something...
Oh yeah, I didn't cut the part where I couldn't think of the question because it's funny rewatching it and cutting it would ruin the conversational feel which is what I go for.
QUESTIONS I ASK:
1. You guys have absolutely blown up after releasing Laugh Tracks and being on a couple tours, how has it been suddenly being in the spotlight?
2. Vincent from The Acacia Strain talked about spotting you guys and taking you on tour because he loved your music, what was that like?
3. What’s the general theme behind Laugh Tracks?
-It seems like every song is about waging a war between the main character and the world’s expectations of him.
-The album art represents someone who is dead on the inside which matches the lyrics from 2 different songs that talk about being uncomfortable in your own skin because the guy is trying to be the way society pressures him to be. Is this something you guys have felt in your own lives?
4. Are any of the stories personal? “Oblivion’s Peak” talks about fraternities and seems like it might be even more rooted in personal experience than others.
5. Laugh Tracks has an overwhelming sense of hopelessness in the lyrics, especially in Billy No Mates where even though they’re better off by not doing drugs he still blames himself for ruining his friendships.
6. Multiple songs talk about graves, tombstones, and the general theme of dying or already being dead. You guys are all so young (Isaac is 19 right?) so what is with the obsession with death?
7. The main character is suicidal throughout the entire album and at the end shoots himself in the head and the album ends with people laughing. Is that just a general comment about how you guys feel society thinks about individual people in general?
8. Laugh Tracks is like a more polished version of Pop Culture, what direction do you see your future music going in?
-Are there any guest vocalists you’d like to work with on it?
9. Where’d the idea for the arf arf on Counting Worms come from? Most bands do the standard “blegh” these days so it was kind of a funny way to set yourselves apart while still being badass.
10. A lot of people are wondering, what’s your favorite Impending Doom record and what was the argument behind it?
