The 15–20° Test That Tells You If Your AC Is Healthy

Want to know if your AC is actually running efficiently — without calling anyone? Here are two quick tests you can do at home 👇

Test 1: The thermostat drop:
Set your thermostat to cool. A healthy system should drop the indoor temperature by at least 1° every 30 minutes. (Outdoor heat affects this, so treat it as a rule of thumb.)

Test 2: The "Delta T" temperature difference:
Measure the air temperature at your return (near your filter) versus the air coming out of a supply register. A well-performing system usually shows a 15–20° difference. That gap is what HVAC pros call Delta T — it's a fast, reliable read on efficiency.

The bigger takeaway:

Most AC breakdowns we see in Nashville could have been prevented with a professional tune-up. Vital components wear down, and a tune-up catches problems before the summer heat exposes them.

So when is the best time to schedule an AC Tun-Up? Spring! Before the heatwave starts.

Availability gets very tight once peak season hits, so booking early means you're not stuck waiting when you need cooling most.
