To play AHX files, you need the WinAHX plugin for WinAMP which you can find on this site: http://www.back2roots.org/Tools/Mus/W/
It's quite old and likes to crash with certain tunes, so use at your own risk!

There is also an AHX plugin for XMMS: http://sourceforge.net/projects/xmms-ahx/files/
Haven't tried that one though so don't ask. :P
