The Science of Speed — Why Tires Change Shape at High Velocity

At extreme speeds, centrifugal force pulls the rubber outward, causing the tire to expand in diameter and subtly change shape as it spins faster. This isn’t just a visual effect — it’s real physics in motion.

As the tire rotates, heat builds up from friction with the road. The air inside expands, increasing internal pressure, while the rubber walls flex under stress. Over time, this can lead to fatigue and even structural failure if the tire isn’t built for such extremes.

That’s why speed-rated tires exist — engineered with advanced materials and reinforced structures to withstand enormous centrifugal forces, thermal expansion, and mechanical stress without losing stability or safety.
