How can we fight paranoia? | Luigi Zoja | TEDxLakeComo

Where does the fear of the other come from? Why are we so scared of people who are different? Our society is very heterogeneous and it is impossible to ignore or cancel the differences. So, are we destined to live forever with the mistrust and fear? Luigi Zoja traces back human history and explains how our fears transform into paranoia. Fortunately, the most powerful antidote against the "collective psychic infections" of paranoia is intrinsic in our nature: being surrounded by other human beings.

Luigi is one of the most known and appreciated Italian psychoanalysts. Before settling permanently in Milan, he worked in Zurich, where he attended the Jung Institute, and in New York. He was President of the Italian Center for Analytical Psychology from 1984 to 1993 and of the International Association for Analytical Psychology from 1998 to 2001. He has held conferences and courses all over the world and is the author of numerous essays including "La morte del prossimo" (2009); "The gesture of Hector, Prehistory, History, Actuality and Disappearance of the Father", and "Centauri." "At the origins of Male Violence" (2016), "In the mind of a Terrorist, Conversation with Omar Bellicini" (2017). This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
