James Starley Building, Coventry University Demolition Time Lapse (April 2019 - June 2020)

Armac undertook the demolition of the former Science Block known as the James Starley Building at Coventry University. The building was formerly used for biochemistry, radiological sciences, organic chemistry and biomedical science teaching. The building was four storey’s high and had three separate basements covering approx. 11,110 M2. The project included the demolition of the entire structure, disconnection of services and excavation of the basements.

Due to the location of the building within a live university environment that experienced heavy foot and vehicle traffic, logistics were agreed well in advance of works commencing, traffic management plans, road closures and service isolation's were prepared and applied for during the lead in works, with our main priority being to ensure minimal disruption to the University, local community, businesses and pedestrians. Consideration was given to the fact that Cox Street is an extremely busy city centre thoroughfare and bus route. Potential plant and people interface was controlled by a qualified banksman working from a position of safety.
