5 Items Every Serious Mushroom Grower Needs

This is my list of the 5 essential items every serious mushroom grower needs. Weather you're a small hobby grower looking to produce more, or you are starting a small mushroom farm, these 5 items will make your life a lot easier and are worth the investment!

The first is the laminar flow hood. Laminar flow hoods work by cleaning particles out of the air and blowing a clean flow of air over your working area. This prevents contamination ingressing into your work and can save you a lot of time and money down the track. All it takes for contamination is one trichoderma spore to enter your spawn bags, so get one of these and success will happen!

The second is a PID controller. Getting your hands on one of these to automate your sterilisation cycles will save time and a lot of money. They work by turning the power on and off to keep your sterilizers at a specific temperature. You can also use them to automate other functions. I use one to automate my ventilation fan in my mushroom fruiting chamber.

The third is a good fridge. It sounds simple enough, right? well it is! having a good fridge will improve your storage of all your cultures and with health strong culture, you will have healthy strong mushrooms!

The fifth is a good impulse sealer. These work their magic and seal all your mushroom bags air tight. Because you are going to be using one all the time if you use the bag growing method, getting a decent one is worth it from the beginning!

The last is a good humidifier. Pretty self explanatory with mushroom growing. Humidity is a key item in growing mushrooms, and having a humidifier which does what you need it to do is a must. There are generally three types people use. Homemade ultrasonic, pre-built humidifiers, and high pressure misters. Homemade foggers are brilliant, but the best is the high pressure mister, but they do come with a price tag!
