Prairie Memories, The Vietnam War Years is a collection of oral histories from people who served, were left behind, who protested, or who fled their war torn country for a new life.

00:33 Robert Carlson, lives in Jamestown, ND. Trained as an image interpeter, Robert's time in Vietnam was spent serving as a counter-intelligence person. He gathered information from villagers to alert forces of Viet-Cong activity in the area he served.
02:46 Larry Young, lives in Mayville, ND. While serving in Vietnam Larry went on patrols in the Highlands searching for enemy activity. He recounts his duties in his platoon and the time they were ambushed and the chaos that ensued.
05:29 Dorothy Heieie, lives in Fargo, ND. Dorothy worked in Vietnam and was there during the Tet Offensive. The war was at her front door and she realized it was time to leave.
07:56 Darrell Dorgan, lives in Bismarck, ND. Drafted into the Army and talks about his experience with Agent Orange and making it through his time in Vietnam.
10:02 David Scherzer, lives in Moorhead, MN. David was on the front lines of Vietnam and moved face to face with the enemy. He recounts how intimate the memories of Vietnam affects him to this day.
12:00 Bill Henderson, from Lisbon, ND. Paints picture of what it’s like to be an Army infantry soldier.
14:33 Beni Paulson, from Richardton, ND. Talks about his father, Dennis Paulson, and the letters he wrote back to his parents while serving in Vietnam.
16:34 Max Zurcher, lives in Minot, ND. His time was served in the Delta south of Saigon. While serving he talks about his experience in the Army, nightmares, and his religious beliefs.
19:05 Lillian Crook, lives in Bismarck, ND. Discusses living in Japan as a child while her dad was stationed there. Her husband Jim Fuglie trained as a photograher in the Navy during his tour in Vietnam.
21:20 Bernard McKigney, lives in Moorhead, MN. Bernie was drafted into the army during Vietnam . He recalls being wounded in action while walking through a rice paddy and flown to safety on a helicopter.
23:36 Larry Schoenwald, lives by Sawyer, ND. During his time in Vietnam he was a helicopter mechanic. While in Vietnam Larry reviews how he felt over there and then how it felt to return from a war torn country back to a life and a family now alien to him.
