John Carver - We LOST our HOME.

Most of you know I am an open book because, partly, something I share might help others in their struggles. I am sure there are quite a few of you who think I share too much.

The home that we built, for our six children, in 2006. We wanted each of our six children to have their own bedroom and lots of room (outdoors) to run and play.

We could afford it, at the time, because I had helped build financial services agencies that covered several states. In early 2007 our youngest daughter, Juliana, was stricken with cancer for the first time. The cancer came back SEVEN MORE TIMES. Juliana passed away, in our home, on October 24, 2016 at the age of fourteen.

Since Juliana has been gone our home, to me, has just been "sheet rock and wood." Tammy and I live in agony 24/7/365 that our Juliana is gone forever. We miss her so very much.

Also, in 2007, as one writer put it, "The subprime mortgage crisis occurred when banks sold too many mortgages to feed the demand for mortgage-backed securities sold through the secondary market. ... The ensuing 2007 banking crisis and the 2008 financial crisis produced the worst recession since the Great Depression."

From that point on we were "under water" on our mortgage which means we owed more than the house was worth.

I am thankful that, with the help of our real estate agent Vince Stonesifer, Utz Realty and the owner (I will not reveal the name to protect their privacy) of the house we are now renting (we haven't rented since 1988 as we have owned four homes since late 1988) we will have a place to live. We were just seventy two hours away from being homeless.

I am, also, thankful to those who stood with us, in the past, who knew the very personal struggles in our family. You would not believe how kind several people have been to us.

As I continue to look for a way to leverage three decades of experience and knowledge to find another career path I will, hopefully, continue to share some of what I have learned that might help you too.
