I suffered from knee pain most of my life and most of it came from poor squatting technique. They kicker is that that's "right" for weighted squats isn't always right for bodyweight squats. When the weight is off the body, the rules change and how you move your knees is just one such example.
As always with this advice listen to your body. Preexisting knee problems can require a whole different set of rules that are specific to your needs.
