Jewish insights from Inside Out Movie Animation

In Inside Out 2, Riley, the main character, is growing up and about to start high school. The five emotions from the first movie – Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust – now have new friends like Embarrassment, Ennui, Jealousy, and Anxiety.

The movie shows how these emotions help Riley navigate her new challenges.

It focuses on the conflict between joy and anxiety, showing how both are important and teaches that all feelings, even the ones that seem bad, are part of who we are and help us understand the world.

This theme resonates with Jewish teachings, which encourage embracing the inner child’s sense of wonder and awe. Every day is a chance to learn and grow, just like the Baal Shem Tov said: “The world is new to us every morning, and every person should believe they are reborn each day.”
