Wildlife vets in South Africa work across land and air to dart, capture and relocate southern giraffes.

Veterinarians and their support crews relocate giraffes to new habitats to help maintain healthy populations and increase ecosystem biodiversity. These teams use a combination of tools and techniques. They use helicopters to pursue and dart, ground teams to rope and tackle, and special transport vehicles to relocate these magnificent animals. It takes several teams and many moving parts to ensure the successful translocation of the giraffes.

As a wildlife veterinarian in South Africa, William Fowlds encounters a diverse range of animal species, including elephants, lions, cheetahs, and giraffes, providing medical care, performing surgeries and rescues, and working tirelessly to protect and conserve these iconic creatures and their habitats.
