SportCruiser Light Sport Airplane l Not Your Average Sport Plane

This week, I’m at Cruiser Aircraft to check out one of the best selling light sport airplanes in the market, the Sportcruiser. Formerly knoen as Pipersport, sportcruiser was one of the first aircraft to be certified in the Light sports aircraft LSA category.

Back in 2010, Piper licensed the design and build of this airplane and rebranded it as the Pipersport. This was Piper’s entry into the LSA market. Unfortunately that partnership would dissolve in within 2 years. But the Czech manufacturer of the Sportcruiser realigned their product and design and continued to sell this beautiful bird. Today we now know it as the Czech sportcruiser.

Being a light sport, sportcruiser uses a 100hp rotax 912 engine and the airplane will cruise around 110 knots with flight range north of 600 miles. load and capacity is limited in the light sport category. But what’s great about the sportcruiser is that it can also be used as a trainer. As a matter of fact, most flights schools in the US that you find training students with a light sport aircraft are likely using a sportcruiser. This aircraft can be used to acquire not just a sport pilot license, but also a private pilot license, ifr rating and commercial license.
