How to smooth & blend oil based clays “monster clay or chavant” using mineral spirits

To view the work-in-progress for this 1/4 scale friesian horse, visit: https://www.facebook.com/CaesarYanez.Sculpture.ClayToBronze/ . This video demonstrates how I use odorless mineral spirits, (also known as paint thinner) to achieve the smooth blend and professional look. In this video the clay used was monster clay “medium”. A small 1/4 inch flat nylon brush was used to apply, blend and smooth the face surface of the horse head. The process will be repeated after additional corrections are made. For instance while uploading the video I noticed that the lower lip protrude pass the upper lip, which is not correct; therefore, I will shorten the lower lip and repeat the process.

You may also want to use Isopropyl Myristate in small quantities with a soft brush and move on to different areas while the solvent evaporates. For polishing Monster Clay to a glass-like surface, start with a smooth area. Apply a small amount of Isopropyl myristate to a clean paper toweling and rub in a circular fashion until the clay takes on a shiny surface. The Isopropyl myristate works by dissolving the wax and as you polish you will achieve a sheen on the surface.

Isopropyl Myristate can be purchased from monster clay: http://www.monstermakers.com/product/isopropyl-myristate-8-oz.html or Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Mystic-Moments-RMISOP500-Isopropyl-Myristate/dp/B00DN169SK/ref=pd_lpo_194_tr_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=QRB5GVZ2GNPXXDA4WW2X (good deal if you use prime free delivery)
