Iration Steppers – Freedom Mills – NYE December 31st 2021

The Vanguard of Dub - Iration Steppers were in action at Freedom Mills on NYE in Leeds. Alongside Sinai Sound from Sheffield, they both rocked a packed club right until the end of the night with a selection of Old School Dub, new Digital Dub, & there was even a 90 minute Dubstep set played during the middle of the night too.

Both Sound Systems sounded fantastic, but the shock of the night came on 12am when Iration brought in the New Year with a selection of 60s Reggae Music like Desmond Dekker’s – 007 (Shanty Town), The Israelites, & Toots & The Maytals – Monkey Man. The even BIGGER shock came when Mark Iration went one step further & dropped “Madness – One Step Beyond”! I was in too much shock to know what to think of it all, but I was dancing & singing away, so that should give you a clue!

The club was packed. So much so, there was sweat dripping from the ceiling into people’s drinks! Yuk! Luckily, I was drinking water all night, so with the bottle cap firmly in place I reckoned I was pretty safe. To be honest, this was more a Dub inspired party rather than a serious out & out Steppers Session, but after all the lockdowns we’d had to endure, who cares.

Michael Rose of Black Uhuru fame had been doing the UK recording studio rounds in 2021, so many Sound Systems are now brandishing his “Specials” or “Personals” as they used to be known in the 60s, 70s & 80s. I wasn’t prepared for the one which Iration dropped, but when it did, it blew my raas head off yo! Have a listen…
