The 8th Wonder: Climbing Lion Rock's 1200 Steps.

Sigiriya: Lion Rock Fortress (The Eighth Wonder)
Sigiriya, or the Lion Rock, is a majestic UNESCO World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka, often called the Eighth Wonder of the World. It is an ancient rock fortress and palace complex built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century CE on a massive granite monolith that rises nearly 200 meters from the jungle floor.

Key Features
The Lion Gate: The final ascent to the summit begins between two enormous, sculpted Lion Paws, which are the remnants of a gigantic brick and plaster lion structure that gave the rock its name ('Sinha-giri' meaning Lion Rock).

The Water Gardens: At the base, you'll find some of the world's oldest landscaped gardens, featuring a sophisticated, still-functioning hydraulic system of fountains, pools, and underground conduits.

The Frescoes and Mirror Wall: Halfway up, a sheltered gallery showcases the famous Sigiri Damsels, vibrant ancient paintings renowned for their artistry. Adjacent to this is the Mirror Wall, once highly polished to a mirror shine, which is now famous for containing thousands of ancient poems and graffiti left by visitors over the centuries.

The Summit Palace: The flat top of the rock holds the ruins of King Kashyapa's royal palace, complete with sophisticated cisterns and a stunning 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape.

Sigiriya is celebrated as a masterpiece of ancient urban planning, architecture, and hydraulic engineering.
