During my university break, I decided to build a custom AI code completion model (similar to GitHub Copilot or Visual Studio IntelliSense) from scratch.

In this devlog, I break down how I started the project using Python and PyTorch. I cover referencing state-of-the-art architectures like DeepSeek and Qwen, creating an IterableDataset for streaming massive datasets, and implementing syntax-aware Fill-In-The-Middle (FIM) data using Tree-sitter.
