Voltage Stabilizer

Voltage stabilizer
A voltage stabilizer is an electronic device that regulates the output voltage of an electrical system to a safe range that the equipment under use can take safely. For example, in Asian countries (where it is used the most), it remains from 200 volts to 240 volts irrespective of input voltage fluctuating from 180 to 270. It never gives a constant voltage as often misconceived, except for costly servo stabilizers. It is used to protect electrical appliances from voltage fluctuations, which can cause damage or affect the performance of the appliance.
Voltage stabilizers can be of two types: analog and digital. Analog voltage stabilizers work by sensing input voltage and using electromagnetic relays controlled by electronic circuits to change the connections to an autotransformer, while digital voltage stabilizers use a microprocessor-controlled circuit. Digital voltage stabilizers are more accurate and efficient than analog stabilizers, and they also provide better protection in terms of several additional cutoff features such as temperature rise, beyond-the-range, time delay, overload trip, etc to the connected appliances.
Voltage stabilizers, mainly relay type are commonly used in households, and offices, to protect electronic appliances like refrigerators, televisions, air conditioners, and computers. Servo stabilizers are also used in medical equipment, laboratory instruments, and industrial machines that require a highly stable and constant voltage supply.
When choosing a voltage stabilizer, it's important to consider the power rating of the stabilizer and the appliances it will protect. The stabilizer must have a power rating always greater than the total power rating of the connected appliances to the extent of about plus 10%. Additionally, the voltage stabilizer should have a low response time and high accuracy, to ensure that the output voltage remains stable even during rapid voltage fluctuations.
In conclusion, voltage stabilizers play an important role in protecting electrical appliances and ensuring that they perform optimally. By regulating the output voltage to a stable level, they prevent damage to the appliances and ensure that they work as intended. But low-quality stabilizers from non-reputed brands are not advisable to use as they sometimes deliver dangerously high voltage while the inbuilt electronic circuit fails that even can damage the equipment.
