This was the last song written for Fallen and would have been the first single, but Bring Me to Life had been put onto the Daredevil Soundtrack, so it became the second single.

The song is about Amy Lee's relationship with an abusive boyfriend, but it can be used to describe any type of abusive relationship. Lee said the song is about emerging from a "bad" relationship, explaining "And when you're at the end of your rope, when you're at the point where you realize something has to change, that you can't go on living in the situation that you're in. It's cool. It's a very strong song."[1]

Going Under is Amy's favorite song from Fallen.
