OpenCode Masterclass Part 2: Everyday Workflows (Core)
Every prompt you type twice should be a two-word slash command. In Part 2 of the OpenCode Masterclass, you turn a fresh install into a daily workflow that's faster, cheaper and built around your own habits.
Last episode you installed OpenCode, connected a model and shipped your first change. Now we build the everyday loop: resuming yesterday's session in one flag, compacting long threads to cut token cost, running tests inline so the agent reads the failures itself, drafting big prompts in your real editor, and the star of the show — custom slash commands that inject live context like your current git diff. We finish by making the terminal yours with themes and keybinds in tui.json.

▶ Part 2: Everyday Workflows (Core) — TODAY
🔜 Part 3: Config, Agents and Permissions (Intermediate) — Oct 11
🔜 Part 4: Automation, MCP and GitHub (Advanced) — Oct 12
🔜 Part 5: Pro Secrets and Scaling (Expert) — Oct 13
⏱️ CHAPTERS
00:00 Intro — from setup to daily flow
00:09 Step 1 — Resume any session
00:22 Step 2 — Compact long chats
00:34 Step 3 — Run shell inline
00:47 Step 4 — Draft in your editor
01:02 Step 5 — Create custom commands
01:12 Step 6 — Inject live context
01:26 Step 7 — Tune themes and keys

✅ WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
• /sessions, opencode --continue and opencode session list to pick up any past conversation
• /compact (alias /summarize) to shrink long threads and save tokens
• The ! prefix to run shell commands and feed their output to the agent
• /editor for long prompts in your own editor, and /export to save chats as Markdown
• Custom commands in .opencode/commands/ with frontmatter and $ARGUMENTS
• Injecting live shell output with !`git diff` and pinning the read-only plan agent
• Persisting your theme and keybinds in tui.json, including the ctrl+x leader key
Prerequisites: OpenCode installed with a connected provider, and a project inside a Git repo. New here? Start at Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkbJTsEmlgE
💬 Which prompt are you turning into your first custom command? Share it in the comments — the best ones might show up in a later episode.
🔔 Subscribe and turn on notifications. Part 3 drops tomorrow, where we open opencode.json and build custom agents with real permission rules. Every masterclass takes one AI tool from beginner to expert in five short daily episodes.
