Good Afternoon!

Welcome to part 2 of my "why I moved to Portugal" series. The number one question that I get asked by so many people is why did you choose Caldas da Rainha over larger cities. Well, today is the day where I sit down and give you 10 reasons why we chose Caldas over Lisbon, Cascais, Setubal etc.

Did you know it was a year ago when my husband and I went on a 10 day scouting trip throughout Portugal? We visited all the major cities such as Lisbon, Cascais, Setubal, Sintra, Sesimbra, Torres Vedras and Peniche, We made sure to check out the most popular destinations based on online forums and was surprised to find that the bigger cities didn't suit us. We have 3 small kids and wanted to raise them in an area where they had the space to run around yet the amenities of a small city. Thankfully, someone had recommended Caldas da Rainha and it literally changed our lives.

From the bustling fruit market to the large shaded park called Dom Carlos, Caldas da Rainha is located in the Silver Coast of Portugal. It's roughly an hour north of Lisbon and two hours south of Porto. Caldas is known for their art especially ceramics and their year long fresh fruit and vegetable market. A mere 10 minute drive, you'll arrive at the beaches of Foz do Arehlo or Sao Martinho do Porto. If you're more of a nature person, drive 10 minutes inland and you'll witness some of the best mountain views Portugal has to offer.

I should give you a disclaimer though- I would always advise everyone to go on a scouting trip before settling on a location. What I may find amazing, you may not and that's ok! I love Caldas more and more each day and I'm so grateful to have found it, but I can also see that it may not suit every family.
