5 SCAMS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT… EXPOSED
In the video below you’ll see a run in I had recently with someone trying to scam me out of $1,000 in order to receive the $4.5 million I had (allegedly) won at Publishers Clearing House. This guy was ruthless; he was willing to take my money even after I told him that I needed the money for my mom’s heart medication, and that she might die if I paid him and didn’t get the money.

This inspired me to scour the web and find you 5 great articles to help identify scammers written by some of the web’s leading personal finance gurus. I hope you enjoy the video and the articles.

PUBLISHERS CLEARING HOUSE SCAM
1. THE MYSTERY SHOPPER SCAMS (THEPENNYHOARDER.COM)
The PennyHoarder.com explains how multiple scams work including the “Oops We Overpaid You” scam, the “Pay Us to Find You the Best Shops” scam, the “Oddly Specific Invitation” scam, and the “Make $9,000 a Month!” scam.

2. STUDENT LOAN REPAYMENT SCAMS (THECOLLEGEINVESTOR.COM)
“Scam companies are student loan assistance companies who charge you for a service and then never do it, or don’t do it 100%. For example, the firm might advertise ‘student loan forgiveness’ or ‘lower student loan payments.’ They charge you hundreds of dollars and say ‘they’ can do it but in reality don’t actually do anything at all. You pay the money, the firm does nothing at all and is shut down 6 months later. This is a scam.” TheCollegeInvestor.com | Read the FULL ARTICLE

3. IRS SCAMS (SCOTTALANTURNER.COM)
“Scammers make unsolicited calls claiming to be IRS officials. They demand that the victim pays a bogus tax bill. They con the victim into sending cash, usually through a prepaid debit card or wire transfer. Many phone scams use threats to intimidate and bully a victim into paying.” ScottAlanTurner.com | Read the FULL ARTICLE

4. MAKE MONEY FROM SURVEYS SCAM (WALLETHACKS.COM)
“Ten years ago, most survey companies were clearly scams. Market research companies just weren’t looking online to pad their survey pools. Nowadays, many market research companies are using the internet to get more responses. The legitimate companies are drowning out the scams, but the scams still exist. And the scammers now have models to copy so they look like legit companies!” WalletHacks.com | Read the FULL ARTICLE

5. SCAMS TARGETING BABY BOOMERS (CHEATSHEET.COM)
“If you’re one of the tens of millions of baby boomers out there, then you’re probably looking forward to retirement. After working and saving for decades, you hopefully have a nice nest egg — savings, investments, perhaps even pensions and Social Security — to draw from. But you’re probably aware there are people out there looking to take that money from you. And they’re devising ever more scams and schemes in order to do it.” CheatSheet.com |
