USS Minnesota edit

USS Minnesota (SSN-783) is a nuclear powered fast attack submarine, the 10th of the Virginia-class. She is the third United States Navy vessel to bear the name and the second of two named for the state, while the other was named for the Minnesota River.

On 4th March 2026, The Iranian Navy frigate IRIS Dena was torpedoed and sunk by the USS Minnesota in the Indian Ocean. The warship had recently taken part in the International Fleet Review 2026 naval exercise hosted by India and was returning home when it was sunk in international waters, approximately 40 nautical miles (74 km; 46 mi) off the coast in Galle, Sri Lanka. The United States Department of Defense later confirmed that the attack was carried out using a Mark 48 torpedo.
