MARY NEWMAN’S COTTAGE, SALTASH. She was the wife of Sir Francis Drake 16th CENTURY KITCHEN

SALTASH, MARY NEWMAN’S COTTAGE. “16th Century KITCHEN.” Mary was the the wife of Sir Francis Drake and a Mayoress of Plymouth. This lovely cottage has been restored as far as possible to the condition it would’ve been in when she was alleged to have lived there. This is an incredibly fine piece of real Heritage preservation in action. Local people looking after their own history without the benefit of all those highly qualified people with degrees & diplomas cocking it up! It is run and kept by the Tamar Valley protection Society. Admission is free but a donation is appreciated you can contact them for their opening hours on 01579 384381 or gerryswt@gmail.com
Do not put off the visit, it is well worth a visit, there are toilets and refreshment facilities, 10 mins walk from SALTASH HIGH STREE, also it is brilliant. Thanks to the lovely Bonita for being our guide. No computer screens as such and things to push that don’t work, make it even more wonderful, but there is a TV showing a DVD of the story of the house.
